North East News

Julie had sent the report and its lost somewhere in cyberspace so I've sent you a simlar copy!!
Well I'm afraid this week there's no Julie as shes taken ill again so your stuck with me, don't worry she's ok just feeling a bit under the weather, so I'm sure you will all join me in saying a big get well soon to her!!!
This week has been a good week for me Tuesday night was ringcraft and match night, There was a buffet and cake and to top it all off Loki won Best in Match, so I was very happy and Loki got a big bone as treat! It was a great attendance with approx 15 dogs there, Mark and Julie both did well 'T' getting a second in the puppy class and Piper getting through to the finals! So a good night had by all! Then we had a trip to the vets Wednesday as we thought Loki had stood on some glass and after a anti- filamentary injection seems fine this morning so I've been lucky (was dreading hundreds of pounds in vets bills!!!!!) I have been throwing out my settee and chairs as we were getting new and the dogs have been fighting over which of them could get on them quickest, of course my greyhounds won and I couldn't get them in at bed time, it was freezing cold and there hair was sticking up all along their back but still they wouldn't budge!!!! Loki being the littlest managed to squeeze between the greyhounds and keep warm having his own furry electric bl anklets! Marks pups are coming on well getting bigger by the day we so pleased 'M' is a good mum, Can't wait to go and have a peak in a few weeks. Good luck to anyone showing this weekend, we are at Ashington on Saturday so we will keep you posted on how things go. I'm showing now every weekend till Xmas so will be busy busy!!! The pics I've sent are Loki and his rosette, and my greyhounds squeezed on the old chairs!
Mel
We will all be so sorry to hear that Julie is not well, all our love goes to her! Get well soon Julie and keep smiling! Well done to Loki you must be really pleased and Loki really pleased to be awarded a nice juicy bone for his efforts. I love the chairs in the garden ideal as they will wash down easily, the greyhounds look totally at home in their new garden furniture. Good luck to everyone at Ashington this weekend and we will look forward to hearing all about it, where are you next weekend? I don't have the show on our list.

AND MORE!
'IT'S A DOG'S LIFE...'
Puppy farm puppies often suffer with health problems
To most, they're man's best friend and a life long companion, but for some disreputable traders, puppies are simply a commodity to be cheaply and cruelly farmed and sold.

There are a number of disreputable dog breeders out there who are in the business just for the money.

Thinking of buying a bedlington puppy?
The RSPCA gives the following advice:
Insist on seeing the puppy with its mother where it was raised
Never buy from an unlicensed breeding establishment
If unsure, ask to see the breeder's licence
Avoid adverts offering lots of different breeds for sale
Never buy a pup sold straight from a car boot or at an open-air event like a market
The Kennel Club add:
Always buy from reputable breeders - contact the Kennel Club for breeder details
Never buy if you feel sorry for it - they can invariably be ill
Try and leave the breeder and then report the breeder to local authority or RSPCA
Dog should ideally be raised in home - assess the state of house
The mother should be on site - ideally the father too
There is no end to Big Mo's talents when it comes to a pair of scissors or shears!! Mo show clips her dogs in the morning cuts all the neighbours hair at lunch times and finishes off the day with a bit of topiary!! Outside big Mo's house
The race is on to find out who will the first person to sculpt a Bedlington bush!!! I recon we have two contenders so far big Mo and Trevor, what about you?
Sandra's Millie joins the Burmington gang in agility training

Sandra's Millie has just begun agility training with me at home. She has had about three lessons and is very enthusiastic. Millie has not started on the weave poles but certainly now has a basic understanding of the equipment and what is required. This little girl has the enthusiasm to be a very good agility prospect and could compete next summer.
Wednesday and we hear from Enid who is reporting for Wales today

Diane's pups

Maureen is good with a pair of shears as well as scissors!!!

Hello from South Wales where the sun is shining for a change. We went to visit Diane Herbert to see her puppies. They are three weeks old and Ecco is the Dad. Luck was on her side for once because she wanted a girl for herself and another for a lady who has been waiting patiently, for a year, for a blue bitch. Misty had two blue bitches and Diane was very pleased because she didn't have to worry about finding good homes for any other pups. They look really healthy and have really thick coats. I'll let you know how they are progressing. I've had a lot of emails from the people who had pups from Fizz's litter and they are all getting on well. Crispin, in London, is going to puppy classes and is great friends with a Labradoodle called Rufus. Vernon is going to ringcraft and obedience and Les will be pleased to know that Melvyn is doing very well at Agility so Louise has got her hands full.Big Mo has found another use for her scissors - topiary! She has given me this conifer and has started the spiral pattern so its up to me to keep it up. I wonder if anyone has clipped a shrub into a Bedlington shape? I wouldn't mind having a go. I suppose you would have to make the shape with chicken wire and grow something like box or privet around it -over to to Trevor- I need professional advice! We could have a topiary competition next year and call it "Best in Shrub".Elwyn has two medical appointments this week, one for his shoulder and he is having his other cataract removed on Friday, so good luck . Maureen is going to wait this time because by the time she got home the last time the hospital was ringing to tell her Elwyn was ready to be collected. At long last the fur on Fizzs' back has started to grow after the allergic reaction to a well known brand of flea prevention. I think she will have a big area of black guard hairs so we'll have to call her Patch instead! I eventually got around to counting up Ecco's points at Open Shows and he has now got his Show Certificate of Merit.Hope to see some of you at LKA,
Enid
Thanks Enid well done to Ecoo for gaining his Certificate Of Merit. What fun "Best In shrub" competition besides Big Mo I don't think there are too many green fingered Bedlington owners to make a good entry! Now there's a challenge for our professional bedlington Gardener " Trevor" he would have the skill to grow and sculpt a bedlington bush! Good luck to Elwyn on Friday, it is great for him to have the operation done during the winter when it is too cold for caravan fishing trips! What lovely puppies Diane must be over the moon to have two bitches and not have to worry about finding homes. The stalk somehow always brings me little boys!!

Many thanks to Derek Lewis for the photos, there are bedlingtons now in lots of countries agility training. Wouldn't it be great to see a bedlington one day competing at the top level in an agility final at Crufts!

We say hello to Donna who is this week's Midland reporter

Willow

Good morning bloggers, now the nights have drawn in, its time for the doggie toy box to come out in the evenings, rubber bones, teddy’s and quacking ducks everywhere. The house is looking and sounding like a nursery again. Willow is in season and she gives me that , I am going to sleep for a month look. Well, we will have a break from each other then!
The winter months make me think of my 11yr old dalmatian Polly, she has had arthritis from a young age. I do find regular massage of the joints and short frequent walks will keep the vet away. Another job to do everyday but it all helps.
I thought you may be interested in seeing ‘our local’ www.littlerascalsuk.com the terms and conditions, and, meet the little rascals, are particularly interesting. I can tell you that they have been very busy for many years. Don’t forget your speakers.
Thurs 19th at 9pm on ch4 is a programme special needs for dogs.
Also a brand new series of the dog whisperer, I cant remember which channel now.
I have an open show date, Ashbourne & d.c.s at Newark 28/12/08 bedlington classes jun,pg,open. Judge T Johnston, Sec R Mosedale 01283 819923.
Bye for now Donna
Thanks Donna hope Polly is not too stiff in this damp weather. Your local breeding kennels are producing a very big variety of pedigree and designer dogs, quite an undertaking I think! In their terms and conditions it is good to see they do agree to refund any puppy that falls sick with an inherited problem, which probably means they are breeding from tested dogs. Thank you for the show information I will put it on our list.

Thanks to Mark for the latest puppy photos. M's pups are now three weeks old, haven't they grown, won't be long before they are running round, you are going to have to have eyes in the back of your head Mark this Christmas with all those shiny baubles and presents round the tree!
David Bruce Bruce visits an old time bedlington man
The painting is owned by an old time Bedlington man called Stuart Staley, and the pic is of his old dog Rambo. Not sure who the artist is though. I went to visit Stuart last week as he is very ill. I couldn't believe the amount of Bedlington paraphernalia he had in his house.
What a fantastic painting David, I would love to meet Stuart and see all his bedlington paraphernalia, I bet he has some fantastic stories to tell! I wonder if anyone else knows Stuart? I am sorry to hear he is poorly do hope he feels better soon
Monday and we say hello to Jack and Victoria

On Monday at obedience Jack was not behaving that well. He followed me on the stay, had to be held on the off lead on recall and pulled away from me on the heel. A photographer came to take photos of our dogs. We will receive the photo in a few weeks time.
It has been very busy this week as my mum has had cataract surgery in her left eye in London. She can see much better now and says that Jack is much lighter now than before!
At agility Jack was the total opposite than at obedience. He loves going up the dog walk and A frame and goes through the tunnel really quickly. Jack has now learnt to go through the tyre. He did it excellently and we both had lots of fun. I can't wait for the fun day with the agility contest!
on Sunday it was Jack's 2nd birthday. We celebrated it with a big pork pie. In two years that we have had jack we have met so many lovely people who have helped us with showing and obedience. Happy birthday to Jazz and all the other litter brothers. I don't know if it is just Jack but lots of bedlington seem to like pork pies.
Good luck to all those with puppies and those in shows
lots of love Victoria and jack Bojangles xx
Poor Tracey having to have a cataract removed but pleased she can now see much better. Tracey can now go on the (the blog cataract removed list) with Elwyn as he is having his second one removed soon.
Well it looks like Jack is following in the great family tradition and going to be a good agility dog. They do love it as it makes such a change from the obedience and show ring!
A very happy birthday yesterday to Jack Bojangles, Bow Wow Bentley and Jazz.

Sunday and we hear from Tricia on Oracke Isalnd in the USA
This week has been quite a weather mixture here....either it is warm and humid and pouring rain or sunny and windy and cold...I think since last week we have had about 14 inches of rain. The road here look like canals and Wellies are the footwear of the day. Of course the girls HATE the rain, especially Willo. Poor Storey. because she has no coat gets soaked to the skin before we are down the steps to the yard. This week Storey has made progress....she was being crated at night, right next to the dog bed and I have been thinking about leaving her out for the night to sleep with the other girls, but was sure if I was ready to do it just yet. The other night when I went back to bed, there were all 5 of them curled up together sleeping. Well, I didn't have the heart to move her into her crate, so she spent her first night on the "big bed". I have very stricked rules for the dogs at night....once we go to bed, we are in bed. There is now wondering the bedroom, or leaving the room. If I get up at night there is no following me or getting off the dog bed. I am happy to say Storey passed with flying colors! She did so good & and I am sure it is because the others know how it is done and she follows them, so no more crate for her at night. I am very proud of her. We also have been doing "dog maintenance" so I put Storey on the grooming table & she has enough coat to barely brush it forward...but enough growth on her head to put on some bedlington lines and start some tassels on her ears (they are VERY little) It will be awhile before she has a topknot. I evened up her legs as at the rescue she was shaved down. She had her ears plucked and the pads between her paws clipped. When I got her down she must have though she was going into the show ring because she started prancing around the room. I think she felt very good. I am always amazed at how well & how quickly the other dogs accept a new one. I have found them curled up on one of the many smaller dogs beds around the house with her....today for the first time all 5 of them were playing "keep away" with one of the stuffed toys....before this they would play one on one, so this was good to see.....all 5 playing with tails at "half mast" as I call it, where there is no dominate stance from anyone. Any play would have immediately been stopped if a tail went up! She is doing so well surrounded by 4 of the best teachers in the world....Rose, Grey, Willo and Amelia..I am very proud of them too for the way they have also taken her in. If the rain and the water ever go away I hope to get them waking again. I hope this isn't going to be one of those wet winters.....so far if feels like it. It is supposed to turn unseasonably cold this week end, although sunny. I am solar powered, so I need the sunshine to get me going..so please no more rain....Hope everyone is dry over there although it seem you have had your share of rain too. Until next week...tootles from me and the Woofs in Foggy Ocracoke...USA
Tricia, Greyson, Rose ,Willo ,Amelia & Storey (My Woofs in Sheeps Clothing)
It is so nice to hear Storey is now a well and truly accepted member of your bedlington family, I expect it will take quite a few months before her topnot and tassels get to a good length, those don't matter, in the end Storey is a happy little bedlington. Maybe one day we can have a photo.

Good morning and how nice to see the sun this morning, no show or agility for us today so off over the three hills to give the dogs a good run. Being Saturday we hear from Marie with Briagha and Cody up in Scotland
Last weekend Cody managed to limbo dance under the gate again, but thankfully he didn't wander far. I've managed to reinforce the gap with chicken wire, so it should be okay for now. We had every weather element thrown at us in one day last Sunday, including thunder and lightning whilst I was out sorting the gate. The dogs were completely fine with the thunder, but when the heavens opened with hailstones we all had to run back to the house. Of course the dogs were much faster than I, and Briagha was soon standing at the door thinking 'hurry up mum, we're getting soaked here'. Aside from that, things are pretty quiet and normal up here so nothing else to say really!
Thank you Marie it is just amazing how they can get down very low to escape under a gate, we had this problem with Parker he could squeeze his body through the tiniest cap!
